How to support women in the surf every time you hit the waves.
Have you ever been approached by a lovely lady in the waves & thought…”if only all women were like this”? The thing is, most of them are. A lot of women are the shy type that tends to let others approach them before starting a conversation. I know all about those feels. However, let’s bring those good vibes to the waves & encourage each other!
These are our tips to continue to support women in the surf every time you hit the waves.
Approach a stranger - Even if you are of the shy type try to make an effort to say hey to another female in the surf or even just cheer them onto a wave. A simple “wow I love your swimmers” is a classic ice-breaker that’ll get you talking to a stranger. Bringing those good vibes to the waves brings up everyone’s mood & makes the session 100x more fun. Plus you might get lucky and make a friend who you can surf with regularly. Some of my closest friends were made by simply stepping outside my comfort zone and saying hey in the water.
Respect all the abilities around you - If there’s a beginner there, let them have some waves, even if they can’t get onto most of them. Let them know that there’s someone believing in them just by encouraging them to paddle for a wave. If there are more advanced surfers around you give them respect but also know that if you’re on their inside you 100x have right of way. Maybe even ask how long they’ve been surfing for and if they have any tips they’d be willing to share with you. 9/10 they will be more than happy to have a chat about surfing and will give you some valuable tips that’ll help improve your own skills.
Have Fun - just be yourself and have a ball. You’re in mother natures playground so be stoked to be there catching waves. Not everyone has the privilege of living close to the ocean so really respect & enjoy what you have! Having fun is also contagious. When there’s someone in the surf having the time of their life, it really does rub off on everyone around them. There’s no better life than one spent by the sea.
